Well we did it!!! We won Best Drama at the National Film Awards last night. All that competition from films with massive budgets and our feature trounced them to take the award. Congratulations to everyone involved in A Reason to Leave from the very top to those wonderful people who turned up to do a day’s extra work – you must all share in the credit. It was a great evening and fabulous for Director Norman and Co-Producer Carolyn to be reunited with our leading actors Mark Wingett, Claire King, Alice Bird and Simone Spinazze as well as our DoP Franz Pagot, Casting Director Suzy Korel, Screenwriter James Cottle and Composer Paul Fincham. Simone and Franz both flew over from Italy to join us.
When the announcement was made the whole table fell into a stunned silence. It took a few moments for it to sink in that the impossible had really happened and we had actually won. The moment was recorded and is already on You Tube – https://youtu.be/eK6o77P1reA. The whole hall erupted as we were supported by other small production companies.
Norman said: “This award was not only for us but for all the small independent companies making feature films on micro budgets. It can be done but only with the help and support of cast and crew who all give so much for so little.”
We are now hoping that having achieved so much, we shall get a magic distribution deal in the near future.
